“Hmmm... not bad. Keep practicing,” Raven encouraged.

Raven placed his hand over her head. Runa sucked in air,
surfacing back to reality.
“Why? I can’t take it.”
He sat down beside her, “You have to. She must learn through
you.”
“She’s just a child!”, Runa shielded her belly with her
arms.
“She won’t always be.”
“How can you be so cruel?”
He raised an eyebrow.
Her eyes skirted his gaze, “She’s innocent.”
Raven snorted, “So was the rest of the world.”

“What do you mean you can’t trace them?”
“There’s no... scent.”
“So are you saying they just disappeared into thin air? Oh!
Look at it! That’s exactly what it’s saying!”
A shot rang in the air.
“Darling...”, she drawled, her finger trailing along his
shoulder, “...maybe there’s some truth in it.” When he frowned, she added,
“Magic.”
